Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a small sized speculum with 3" X 1/2" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer effective protection during LEEP?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulation is a specialized, non-conductive coating specifically engineered to prevent RF current transmission. This critical safety feature minimizes the risk of accidental burns to non-targeted, adjacent tissues during electrosurgical procedures like LEEP.

Is this speculum suitable for narrow anatomy?

Absolutely. This model features the Pederson blade pattern, which is specifically designed with narrower blades compared to Graves-style specula. This provides practitioners with greater procedural flexibility and ensures a more comfortable fit for patients where a narrower profile is preferred.

Can this be safely sterilized in an autoclave?

Yes, this instrument is fully reusable and autoclavable. It is built to withstand rigorous clinical environments and complies with ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization validation standards. It is also suitable for ultrasonic cleaning.

How does the integrated smoke evacuation tube function?

The speculum includes a permanent smoke evacuation tube built directly into the assembly. This integrated design allows for efficient smoke removal during electrosurgical procedures, helping to maintain a clear visual field for the practitioner without needing additional attachments.

Does the instrument meet strict biological safety standards?

Yes. The material construction is compliant with ISO 10993 standards and has passed all required biological testing, including evaluations for cytotoxicity and sensitization, ensuring it is safe for clinical use.

Is the material free of natural rubber latex?

Yes, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for use with patients who have latex sensitivities.

Is the handle designed for a secure grip?

The proximal end of the handle features ribbed texturing to ensure a reliable and secure grip for the clinician during adjustments and positioning.

How are the blades adjusted during the procedure?

The speculum uses a classic double-blade, duckbill mechanism. After insertion while closed, the blades are opened and secured using the integrated external lever and knurled screw adjustment system, allowing for precise, stable tension control.

Why is the high-visibility blue color beneficial?

Beyond its protective insulation properties, the vibrant blue finish serves as a helpful visual aid, allowing staff to easily distinguish these electrosurgical-ready instruments within a busy, multi-instrument sterile field.

Is this a durable, long-term clinical investment?

Yes. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel and finished with a robust, insulated coating, this instrument is designed for durability and longevity in a professional medical setting, backed by a lifetime warranty.
