Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a small sized speculum with 3" X 1/2" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

Does the insulation effectively protect against RF current burns?

Yes. The Sklar Blue coating is specifically engineered to provide critical insulation, preventing stray radio frequency currents from traveling through the metal body of the instrument. This design significantly minimizes the risk of unintended thermal injury to surrounding tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Is this speculum suitable for LEEP procedures?

Absolutely. This instrument is purpose-built for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, including LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure), where precise tissue access and non-conductive safety features are required.

How does the Pederson design differ from a Graves speculum?

The Pederson style features narrower blades compared to the Graves design. This narrower profile offers practitioners greater flexibility when selecting the most comfortable and appropriate fit for individual patient anatomy.

Can this be safely sterilized in an autoclave?

Yes, it is fully autoclavable. The instrument is validated for both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle steam sterilization in compliance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards, ensuring it meets rigorous requirements for reusability.

How does the integrated loop assist with smoke evacuation?

The speculum features a dedicated integrated loop attachment. This is specifically designed to securely hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing, helping to maintain a clear and safe field of view during surgery.

Is the stainless steel construction durable for long-term use?

Yes, it is manufactured from high-quality, professional-grade stainless steel. This durable construction is designed for repeated clinical use and is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Are the materials used safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes. This product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

What are the specific dimensions of the blades?

This small-sized model features double-blade duckbill blades measuring 3 inches by 0.5 inches.

Does this instrument meet biological safety standards?

Yes. The construction and insulation materials strictly comply with ISO 10993 biological testing requirements, including standards for cytotoxicity and sensitization.

Is ultrasonic cleaning recommended for this device?

Yes, in addition to being fully autoclavable, this instrument is suitable for ultrasonic cleaning, allowing for efficient and thorough maintenance in a professional medical environment.
