Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium sized speculum with 4" x 7/8" blades. There is no smoke evacuation device.

Frequently asked questions

Does the insulated coating help protect patients during electrosurgery?

Yes, absolutely. The specialized insulated coating is a critical safety feature of this instrument. It prevents radio frequency (RF) currents from transmitting to non-targeted tissues, significantly reducing the risk of unintended burns during procedures like LEEP.

Is this speculum suitable for autoclaving?

Yes, this instrument is designed for durability and repeated use. It is fully autoclavable and can also be cleaned using ultrasonic methods, making it a reliable, long-term asset for your clinical practice.

How does the Pederson design differ from other specula?

The Pederson design features narrower blades compared to the standard Graves speculum. This provides clinicians with greater flexibility and often enhances patient comfort, allowing for an optimal fit during examinations.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex. It is constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring safety for patients with latex sensitivities.

Does this model include smoke evacuation features?

No, this specific model (SKL-91-5084) is designed without smoke evacuation tubes or loops. It is a streamlined instrument intended for practices that do not require integrated smoke evacuation components.

What regulatory standards does this instrument meet?

This speculum adheres to strict medical standards for quality and safety, including:

ISO 10993 compliance: Validated for biological safety (cytotoxicity and sensitization).

ANSI/AAMI ST79: Validated for steam sterilization standards.

Is this the correct size for general gynecological procedures?

This is a medium-sized speculum with blade dimensions of 4 inches x 7/8 inches. The Pederson style is widely recognized for its versatility in various gynecological examinations and electrosurgical procedures.

How do you adjust the opening width of the blades?

The instrument utilizes a double-blade duckbill configuration. It is inserted while closed, and the blade opening width is easily adjusted using the integrated external lever and screw mechanism.

Is the construction durable enough for daily clinical use?

Absolutely. It is manufactured using high-quality stainless steel, ensuring robust performance under the rigors of frequent sterilization cycles and daily clinical use.

Is this speculum ready for use right out of the box?

Please note that this product is supplied as non-sterile. While it is factory new, it must undergo your facility’s standard sterilization protocols before it is used in a clinical or surgical environment.
