Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium sized speculum with 4" x 7/8" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer effective electrosurgical safety?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulating coating is specifically engineered to be non-conductive. This high-quality barrier prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents through the instrument, significantly minimizing the risk of unintended burning to non-targeted patient tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Is the smoke evacuation feature permanent?

Yes, this model features an integrated, permanent smoke evacuation tube. This design ensures procedural efficiency by providing a reliable, built-in solution for clearing surgical smoke without the need for additional attachments.

Can this speculum withstand repeated sterilization cycles?

Absolutely. The instrument is designed for long-term clinical use and is fully autoclavable. It is also compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods, ensuring it remains hygienic and functional throughout repeated sterilization cycles.

Is the Pederson design suitable for varied patient anatomy?

The Pederson style is specifically chosen for its narrower blade profile compared to the Graves model. The 4-inch by 7/8-inch dimensions allow practitioners greater precision and flexibility when selecting the appropriate instrument for a patient’s unique anatomy.

Does this device meet strict regulatory standards?

Yes, this speculum is manufactured to meet rigorous medical standards:

  • ISO 10993: Complies with biological testing requirements, including cytotoxicity and sensitization.
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79: Validated for pre-vacuum and gravity cycle steam sterilization.
Is natural rubber latex used in the construction?

No. This instrument is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer option for environments where latex sensitivities are a concern.

Is the stainless steel base durable for clinical environments?

The instrument is constructed from high-quality, durable stainless steel. This provides a robust foundation for the device, ensuring it maintains its structural integrity even after extensive use and repeated sterilization.

How does the adjustment mechanism perform during procedures?

The speculum utilizes a reliable external lever and screw mechanism. This allows for smooth, controlled manipulation of the double-blade duckbill design, enabling precise positioning and adjustment during gynecological examinations or LEEP procedures.

Are there specific benefits to the blue coating beyond safety?

In addition to its vital electrosurgical insulation properties, the vibrant blue finish provides high visibility within the surgical field and allows for quick functional differentiation from standard stainless steel instruments in a busy clinical setting.

Does the manufacturer back the longevity of this tool?

Yes, this product is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the manufacturer’s confidence in the quality of the materials and the durability of the construction.
