Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium sized speculum with 4" x 7/8" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the protective coating enhance patient safety during electrosurgery?

The signature blue insulation coating is critical for safety during electrosurgical procedures. It prevents the unintended transmission of radio frequency currents through the stainless steel instrument, which significantly minimizes the risk of burning non-targeted tissues.

Why is the Pederson blade design preferred for specific procedures?

The Pederson blade style features a narrower profile compared to the Graves speculum. This design offers practitioners greater utility and flexibility, allowing for improved comfort and better navigation based on specific patient anatomy.

Is this speculum built for durable, long-term clinical use?

Yes, this instrument is constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring it is robust enough for repeated clinical use. It is a reusable device engineered to withstand the rigorous demands of a gynecological operating room.

How does the integrated loop assist with smoke evacuation?

The integrated loop acts as a mounting point designed specifically to secure and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing. This feature keeps the workspace clear and is essential for maintaining efficient, modern electrosurgical workflows.

Is the instrument compatible with standard sterilization protocols?

Yes, the device is fully autoclavable and compatible with ultrasonic cleaning. It complies with the ANSI/AAMI ST79 standard for pre-vacuum and gravity cycle steam sterilization, ensuring it meets stringent hygiene requirements.

Is this speculum safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer option for patients with known latex sensitivities.

Does this instrument meet high-level medical compliance standards?

It adheres to rigorous medical regulations to ensure clinical reliability:

  • ISO 10993: Complies with biological testing for cytotoxicity and sensitization.
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79: Complies with sterilization validation.
  • TAA compliant.
What mechanism controls the blade opening?

The speculum utilizes an external lever and screw mechanism. This design allows for precise, controlled blade separation after the instrument has been inserted in its closed, duckbill configuration.

Is this instrument specifically suited for LEEP procedures?

Yes, it is engineered specifically for electrosurgical gynecological operations, such as LEEP. The specialized insulated coating makes it an ideal choice for procedures where radio frequency currents are actively in use.

What are the dimensions of the medium blade?

The medium-sized blades feature a length of 4 inches and a width of 7/8 inches, providing a standard and reliable fit for typical gynecological examinations and procedures.
