Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a large sized speculum with 4 3/4" x 1" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

How does the insulating coating improve patient safety?

The Sklar Blue insulating coating is specifically engineered to be non-conductive. It effectively prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents during electrosurgical procedures, which significantly minimizes the risk of accidental burns to non-targeted tissue.

Is the smoke evacuation tube reliable for LEEP procedures?

Yes, this model includes a permanent, integrated smoke evacuation tube. It is designed to provide effective and consistent smoke management throughout electrosurgical procedures like LEEP, helping to maintain clear visibility.

Is the speculum compatible with standard hospital cleaning protocols?

Absolutely. This instrument is built for clinical environments and is:

  • Fully autoclavable in compliance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards.
  • Compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods.
This ensures it can be thoroughly sterilized and reused safely.
What is the benefit of the Pederson blade design?

The Pederson pattern features narrower blades compared to the traditional Graves speculum. This profile is often preferred by practitioners when patient anatomy requires a more slender instrument for comfortable access and visualization.

Does this instrument meet high-grade medical regulatory standards?

Yes, the speculum is manufactured to meet rigorous quality and safety benchmarks, including:

  • ISO 10993 compliance for cytotoxicity and sensitization.
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for steam sterilization validation.
  • TAA compliance for trade.
Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this instrument is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities or allergies.

How durable is the construction for long-term use?

Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, this speculum is designed for longevity. It is a robust, reusable surgical instrument backed by a lifetime warranty.

How is the blade positioning adjusted during the exam?

The instrument features a user-friendly external lever and screw mechanism. This allows for precise control when opening and positioning the double-bladed duckbill design after insertion.

What are the specific dimensions of the large blade size?

The Large size variant features blades that measure 4 3/4 inches in length by 1 inch in width, providing ample reach and visualization for clinical needs.

Does this require special preparation before first use?

As the product is delivered in a non-sterile condition, it must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols for surgical instruments before its initial use in a medical procedure.
