Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is an extra-small sized speculum with 2 3/4" x 1/2" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

Does this speculum prevent accidental thermal injury?

Yes. This speculum features a specialized non-conductive blue insulated coating. This coating is engineered to contain radio-frequency currents, ensuring that energy is directed only where needed and preventing thermal injury to non-targeted surrounding tissues.

Is the smoke management system easy to use?

Absolutely. The instrument is equipped with an integrated loop specifically designed to hold and direct standard disposable smoke evacuation tubing. This allows you to maintain a clear, unobstructed field of view throughout the procedure.

Does the Pederson design offer clinical flexibility?

Yes, the Pederson design is preferred for its narrower blade profile (2 3/4” x 1/2”) compared to Graves specula. This provides greater versatility and precision for practitioners when addressing patient-specific needs.

Is the material safe for sensitive patients?

The instrument is crafted from high-quality stainless steel and is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a suitable choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

Can this withstand rigorous clinical cleaning protocols?

Yes. The Sklar Blue speculum is built for durability and is fully:

  • Autoclavable (compliant with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards).
  • Compatible with ultrasonic cleaning processes.
Does it meet professional regulatory standards?

It is designed for high-level clinical use and meets several critical standards, including:

  • ISO 10993 for biological testing (cytotoxicity and sensitization).
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79 for steam sterilization.
  • TAA Compliance.
Is this tool optimized for LEEP procedures?

Yes, it is specifically designed for LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) and other gynecological electrosurgical tasks. The combination of the insulated coating and the smoke evacuation loop makes it an ideal instrument for these specific operations.

How is the blade opening controlled?

The speculum utilizes a reliable external lever and screw mechanism. This allows for precise, gradual adjustments of the blades once inserted to achieve the exact opening required for the procedure.

Does the coating impact the instrument's longevity?

The high-quality insulation is applied to ensure it remains a reliable, long-term asset in your clinic. When following proper sterilization and maintenance procedures, the instrument is designed to withstand repeated clinical use.

Is this speculum considered professional-grade equipment?

Yes, this is a factory-new, professional-grade surgical instrument. It is constructed to meet strict biological testing requirements and is intended specifically for use in professional gynecological clinics and surgical centers.
