Description

Sklar's Kogan endocervical speculum is a gynecological instrument used for viewing the distal endocervical canal. Unlike a traditional, duckbill speculum, this single spring, locking, finger-ring instrument features opposing, fenestrated blades at the end of long jaws. The jaws and blades extend deeper into the cervix and can therefore retract deeper tissue. An endocervical speculum is frequently used in colposcopy procedures, or where polyps cannot be easily visualized. The Kogan comes in wide or narrow blade, with or without a ratchet handle. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments have an insulated coating to prevent radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument - thereby reducing burning of non-targeted tissues. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer protection during electrosurgery?

Yes. This instrument is part of the Sklar Blue line, which features a specialized, non-conductive coating. This provides critical insulation that prevents the transmission of radio frequency currents, effectively protecting non-targeted tissues from accidental burning during procedures.

Is this speculum suitable for deeper cervical visualization?

Absolutely. Unlike standard duckbill specula, this model is designed with long jaws and opposing, fenestrated blades. This configuration allows for deeper extension into the endocervical canal, providing superior retraction of tissue layers for clearer visualization.

Can this instrument be safely sterilized for repeated use?

Yes, this instrument is designed for durability and longevity. It is fully autoclavable and supports ultrasonic cleaning, making it a reliable, reusable tool for professional medical settings.

Is the material composition safe and durable?

The instrument is crafted from high-quality stainless steel with a specialized non-conductive coating. It is also explicitly not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for patients with latex sensitivities.

What is the primary benefit of the spring handle design?

The single spring, locking handle mechanism offers a precise alternative to traditional ratchet handles. It provides smooth operation and reliable locking, which is often preferred by clinicians for maintaining consistent tension during delicate examinations.

Is this model ideal for specific colposcopy needs?

Yes. The combination of its narrow blade configuration and deep-reach capability makes it highly recommended for colposcopy procedures or any clinical situation where visualizing the distal endocervical canal is challenging, such as locating difficult polyps.

Are there any specific processing requirements before initial use?

As this instrument is shipped non-sterile, it must undergo proper sterilization procedures in your facility according to standard medical protocols before it is used in a clinical environment.

Is this a TAA-compliant medical instrument?

Yes, the Sklar Blue Kogan Endocervical Speculum is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for federal procurement and medical facility standards.

How does the narrow blade tip improve performance?

The narrow wire blade tip configuration is specifically engineered for precision. It minimizes obstruction, allowing for targeted visualization within the endocervical canal without the bulk of wider blade alternatives.

Does this product come with a quality guarantee?

Yes, this instrument is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the high manufacturing standards and the durability of the materials used in its construction.
