Description

Sklar's Kogan endocervical speculum is a gynecological instrument used for viewing the distal endocervical canal. Unlike a traditional, duckbill speculum, this single spring, locking, finger-ring instrument features opposing, fenestrated blades at the end of long jaws. The jaws and blades extend deeper into the cervix and can therefore retract deeper tissue. An endocervical speculum is frequently used in colposcopy procedures, or where polyps cannot be easily visualized. The Kogan comes in wide or narrow blade, with or without a ratchet handle. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments have an insulated coating to prevent radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument - thereby reducing burning of non-targeted tissues. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer enhanced safety during procedures?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulated coating is a specialized feature designed to provide electrical insulation during electrosurgical applications. This prevents the transmission of radio frequency currents through the instrument, which helps minimize the risk of accidental burning to non-targeted tissues.

Is this instrument suitable for deep tissue visualization?

Absolutely. It is engineered with long, opposing jaws and fenestrated blades that allow the speculum to extend deeper into the cervix than traditional models, providing superior visualization in complex cases.

How durable is the construction for repeated clinical use?

The speculum is crafted from high-quality OR-grade stainless steel and features a non-conductive nylon coating. It is built for professional-grade longevity and is fully capable of withstanding the rigors of frequent clinical use.

Can this speculum be processed in an autoclave?

Yes, the instrument is designed for clinical settings and is fully autoclavable. It is also compatible with ultrasonic cleaning procedures to maintain high hygiene standards.

Does the ratchet handle provide precise tissue positioning?

Yes, the integrated locking ratchet mechanism near the finger rings allows for adjustable tension. This ensures the speculum maintains a secure, precise hold on tissue throughout delicate procedures.

Is this product safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the Sklar Blue Kogan Endocervical Speculum is completely latex-free and not made with any natural rubber latex.

How does the blade design differ from standard specula?

Unlike a traditional duckbill speculum, this model features:

  • Narrow, fenestrated blades for precise access.
  • A single-spring, locking mechanism for better control.
  • Extended jaws designed specifically to retract tissue effectively within the endocervical canal.
Does this tool meet TAA compliance standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant, making it suitable for facilities that require adherence to Trade Agreements Act regulations.

Is the material quality suitable for professional surgical environments?

Yes, this is a Sklar OR-grade instrument. It is specifically manufactured to meet the high-performance and reliability standards required in surgical and specialized gynecological environments.

What is the expected maintenance requirement for this device?

Because it is a reusable, high-quality stainless steel instrument, it requires standard professional sterilization practices:

  • Autoclaving: Suitable for heat sterilization.
  • Ultrasonic Cleaning: Compatible with standard surgical instrument ultrasonic cleaners.
