Description

Sklar's Kogan endocervical speculum is a gynecological instrument used for viewing the distal endocervical canal. Unlike a traditional, duckbill speculum, this single spring, locking, finger-ring instrument features opposing, fenestrated blades at the end of long jaws. The jaws and blades extend deeper into the cervix and can therefore retract deeper tissue. An endocervical speculum is frequently used in colposcopy procedures, or where polyps cannot be easily visualized. The Kogan comes in wide or narrow blade, with or without a ratchet handle. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments have an insulated coating to prevent radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument - thereby reducing burning of non-targeted tissues. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer protection during electrosurgery?

Yes, this instrument features a specialized Sklar Blue non-conductive nylon coating. This insulation is critical for electrosurgical procedures as it prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents, significantly reducing the risk of accidental burns to adjacent, non-targeted tissues.

Is this instrument suitable for deep cervical visualization?

Absolutely. Unlike standard duckbill specula, the Kogan model is specifically engineered with long jaws and opposing, fenestrated blades. This design allows for effective retraction of deeper cervical tissues, making it an excellent choice for colposcopy procedures or visualizing polyps.

Can I use standard sterilization methods on this device?

Yes, this speculum is designed for professional clinical use and is fully autoclavable. It is also compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods for thorough decontamination between procedures.

Is the material durable for frequent clinical use?

Yes, it is constructed from high-quality stainless steel to ensure long-term durability and resistance to wear, making it a reliable, reusable asset for your gynecological practice.

What is included with the speculum purchase?

The package comes complete with the following items:

Kogan Endocervical Speculum (Narrow Blade configuration)

Gauge

Screws

Is the speculum safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for use with patients who have sensitivities or allergies to latex.

How does the locking handle mechanism function?

The instrument features a single spring, locking, finger-ring handle. This configuration provides the practitioner with steady control and the ability to lock the blades in place once the desired retraction is achieved, without the use of a ratchet.

Does the narrow blade profile provide specific benefits?

The narrow blade profile is specifically designed to facilitate precise access into the endocervical canal. Combined with the fenestrated blade tips, it offers superior visualization of deep tissues while maintaining a slim footprint.
