Description

The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium sized speculum with 4" X 1-1/4" blades. There is no smoke evacuation device.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating offer specific safety benefits?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulated coating is a critical safety feature designed for electrosurgical procedures. This non-conductive layer prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents through the instrument, which helps to minimize the risk of burning non-targeted tissue during sensitive gynecological surgeries like LEEP.

Is this speculum suitable for LEEP procedures?

Absolutely. This speculum is specifically engineered for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, including LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure), where the use of insulated, non-conductive instrumentation is essential for patient safety.

How does the Graves design improve clinical visualization?

The Graves configuration utilizes a double-blade duckbill design that features wider blades compared to a Pederson speculum. This specific geometry provides practitioners with optimal visualization of the surgical site.

Can this instrument be safely sterilized using an autoclave?

Yes, the instrument is fully autoclavable. It complies with the ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization, ensuring it meets rigorous clinical hygiene requirements.

Does the material meet international biocompatibility standards?

Yes. The materials used in the construction of this speculum are fully compliant with ISO 10993 requirements, including specific biological testing for cytotoxicity and sensitization.

Is the speculum compatible with ultrasonic cleaning?

Yes, this reusable instrument is designed for robust clinical environments and is fully compatible with ultrasonic cleaning protocols in addition to standard autoclaving.

Does the locking mechanism allow for precise adjustments?

Yes. The instrument features an external lever and screw assembly. The screw is knurled to provide a secure grip, allowing the practitioner to adjust the blades with high precision and lock them into the desired position.

Is the device made using any natural rubber latex?

No. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer option for patients with latex sensitivities.

What are the exact dimensions of the medium blades?

This medium-sized speculum features blades measuring 4 inches in length by 1.25 inches in width, adhering to the standard dimensions for the Graves configuration.

How durable is this reusable instrument?

This speculum is constructed from high-quality stainless steel and is engineered to support long-term clinical use. It is a durable, reusable investment for a medical practice, backed by a lifetime warranty.
