Description

The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a extra-large sized speculum with 4-3/4" X 1-1/2" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does the coating provide reliable protection against electrical current?

Yes, absolutely. The instrument is crafted from high-quality stainless steel with a proprietary Sklar Blue insulated coating. This specialized non-conductive layer is engineered to prevent radio frequency (RF) current transmission, significantly minimizing the risk of thermal injury to non-targeted tissues during sensitive procedures.

Is the smoke evacuation system durable?

This model features a permanent smoke evacuation tube integrated directly into the instrument’s design. Because it is a permanent fixture rather than an add-on, it provides a stable and reliable solution for efficient smoke management throughout electrosurgical interventions.

What sterilization methods are compatible with this speculum?

This instrument is fully reusable and compliant with rigorous sterilization standards. It is validated for:

  • Pre-Vacuum Steam Sterilization
  • Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization (meeting ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards)
  • Ultrasonic cleaning
Does this meet biocompatibility safety standards?

Yes. This speculum complies with ISO 10993 requirements for biological testing. It has been strictly evaluated for:

  • Cytotoxicity
  • Sensitization regulatory compliance
  • Overall biocompatibility for clinical use.
Is this suitable for LEEP procedures?

Yes, the Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is specifically designed for gynecological procedures that require both blade exposure and active smoke management, such as LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure).

How does the size compare to other speculum types?

This is an Extra-Large Graves speculum, which provides a wider blade profile. The Graves design is generally preferred by practitioners who require a broader blade surface area compared to the narrower Pederson style speculum.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes. The construction is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe option for patients and practitioners with latex sensitivities.

Are the blade dimensions suitable for larger anatomy?

This Extra-Large model is designed with ample dimensions to assist in procedures where a wider view is necessary. The blades measure 4-3/4 inches in length and 1-1/2 inches in width, providing significant coverage and visibility.

How does the opening mechanism operate?

The instrument utilizes a user-friendly mechanical system. It is inserted with the double-blade, duckbill design closed for comfort, and is then easily adjusted to the desired opening using the external lever and screw mechanism.

Is this product TAA compliant?

Yes, this instrument is TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, ensuring it meets the regulatory standards required for procurement in various medical and government-contracted settings.
