Description

Sklar Blue Bozeman Forceps are a multi-functional instrument commonly used in gynecological procedures. They are used for tissue removal in dilation and curettage procedures, intrauterine device retrieval, and packing the uterine cavity. The shanks of this instrument are slightly curved and therefore provide greater visibility when used in the uterine cavity. The jaws are available either curved or straight. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Blue electrosurgical coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects. This product features an "S" curve (slightly curved shanks with jaws slightly curved opposite direction) with partial horizontal serrations and a length of 10-1/4 inches. This product has one larger finger ring on the handle and may also be known as Bozeman-Douglas Forceps due to this feature.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating provide genuine electrosurgical protection?

Yes. The Sklar Blue insulated coating is specifically engineered to be non-conductive. It acts as a protective barrier that prevents radio frequency (RF) currents from transmitting through the instrument, which significantly minimizes the risk of collateral thermal damage to non-targeted tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Is this instrument built for long-term clinical use?

Absolutely. This is a reusable, high-quality stainless steel instrument designed for professional gynecological settings. To ensure longevity and performance, it is fully autoclavable and can also be cleaned using ultrasonic methods.

Does the 'S' curvature help with precision in the uterine cavity?

Yes, the double ‘S’ curvature is a deliberate design feature intended to enhance the surgeon’s line of sight. By allowing the shanks to curve while the jaws curve in the opposite direction, it provides much better visibility when operating within the confined space of the uterine cavity.

Are the jaws designed to maintain a secure grip?

The jaws feature partial horizontal serrations along the working edges. This design provides the necessary friction and grip required for secure tissue manipulation, IUD retrieval, and packing the uterine cavity.

Is the material safe for patients with sensitivities?

Yes, the instrument is 100% latex-free and not made with natural rubber latex. Furthermore, it adheres to rigorous biological compliance standards, including ISO 10993 requirements for cytotoxicity and sensitization.

How does the handle design improve control?

The Bozeman-Douglas configuration features one large finger ring, which is specifically designed to provide the surgeon with a more secure and comfortable hold. This is particularly beneficial when performing delicate tasks such as uterine cavity packing.

Is this product validated for standard sterilization protocols?

Yes. The instrument is fully compatible with professional sterilization environments. It complies with the ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization.

Is the insulation coating covered against wear or defects?

Sklar stands behind the quality of their craftsmanship. The specialized blue insulated coating is guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects.

Does this meet regulatory standards for medical instruments?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant and adheres to strict medical manufacturing standards, ensuring it meets the professional requirements for quality and safety in clinical applications.

Are these forceps suitable for tissue removal?

Yes, they are highly versatile for gynecological applications. Beyond uterine cavity packing and IUD retrieval, they are commonly utilized for tissue removal during D&C procedures due to their robust construction and secure serrated grip.
