Description

The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a slender speculum with 4" x 5/8" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

Does the non-reflective coating significantly improve laser safety?

Yes. This speculum features a specialized black polymer coating over sandblasted stainless steel. It is specifically engineered to reduce laser reflection to less than one-tenth of one percent, which drastically improves surgical safety by minimizing dangerous light scatter.

Is the Pederson blade design more comfortable for patients?

The Pederson style features narrower blades compared to the traditional Graves Speculum. This design is preferred by many practitioners for its ability to provide a more precise and comfortable fit for the patient.

How does the smoke evacuation loop function?

The instrument includes an integrated loop attachment point. This is designed to securely hold and properly direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing, ensuring a clear and organized surgical field during laser procedures.

Can this speculum withstand repeated steam sterilization cycles?

Absolutely. It is constructed from durable stainless steel with a high-quality polymer coating and is fully validated for Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization in accordance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards.

Is this instrument compatible with standard surgical protocols?

Yes, it is built to high professional standards. It complies with ISO 10993 cytotoxicity and sensitization testing, ensuring it meets rigorous biological safety requirements for clinical use.

Does the material contain any natural rubber latex?

No. The Sklar Black Laser Pederson Vaginal Speculum is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

Is the blade mechanism easy to adjust during use?

Yes, the instrument utilizes a reliable external lever and screw mechanism. This allows for smooth, precise control when opening the blades to the desired width once the device is inserted.

Are the blades sized for slender anatomy?

Yes, this specific model features a slender profile with blades measuring 4 inches by 5/8 inches, which is optimized for cases requiring a narrower blade configuration.

What is the primary benefit of the sandblasted finish underneath the coating?

The stainless steel is sandblasted before the application of the black polymer. This texture provides a superior base for the coating to adhere to, ensuring the non-reflective properties remain durable even after multiple sterilization cycles.

Is this product TAA compliant for institutional procurement?

Yes, this speculum is TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant, making it suitable for facilities that require adherence to federal procurement regulations.
