Description

Sklar's Beeson Plaster Spreader is used to aid in the removal of plaster casts. It has a solid straight handle and two large, flat, rectangular blades with horizontal serrations on the outside of the blade. Once a cut is made in the plaster cast, the blades of the spreader are closed by opening the handle and are inserted to a section of the cast. By squeezing the handle, the blades spread open, there by spreading apart sections of the cast. After multiple sections of the cast are spread open, the cast may be removed. The blades are approximately 2-1/8 inches wide and the overall length of this instrument is 12 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is this spreader built for frequent, heavy-duty use?

Yes, this instrument is designed for reliability. It is manufactured from high-quality stainless steel and is specifically engineered as a reusable surgical instrument, ensuring it stands up to the demands of daily clinical environments.

How does this tool help with cast removal efficiency?

The Beeson Plaster Spreader is purpose-built to accelerate the cast removal process. Once you have made an initial cut, the device allows you to:

  • Insert the flat, rectangular blades into the gap.
  • Squeeze the solid, straight handle to mechanically spread the cast sections apart.
  • Repeat this action quickly across multiple points to ensure the cast can be safely and efficiently removed.
Does this tool provide enough grip to prevent slipping?

Absolutely. The spreader features two large, flat, rectangular blades equipped with external horizontal serrations. These serrations are specifically designed to provide superior grip and generate the necessary outward force to separate plaster sections securely.

Is this product made with safe materials for patient care?

Yes. This medical instrument is explicitly not made with natural rubber latex, making it a suitable choice for patients and clinical staff who have latex sensitivities or allergies.

Is the design ergonomic for comfortable operation?

The instrument features a solid, straight handle optimized for leverage. This design allows the operator to apply consistent pressure to the blades, facilitating a smooth and controlled spreading action during the cast removal procedure.

Does it comply with federal procurement standards?

Yes, this Sklar Beeson Plaster Spreader is TAA compliant, making it eligible for purchase by government entities that require adherence to the Trade Agreements Act.

What is the total length of the instrument?

The Sklar Beeson Plaster Spreader measures 12 inches in total length. This length provides the necessary reach and leverage required for effective cast removal in orthopedic and emergency settings.

Can I rely on this tool for a long service life?

We are confident in the construction and longevity of this product. It is backed by a Lifetime warranty, reflecting our commitment to the quality and durability of this professional surgical instrument.

Are the blades wide enough to handle thick plaster?

Yes, the spreader is designed with substantial working ends. Each of the two flat blades measures approximately 2.13 inches (2-1/8 inches) in width, providing a significant surface area to apply force evenly across the plaster cast material.

What is the best way to maintain this instrument?

Because the tool is constructed from durable stainless steel, it is designed to be reusable. It should be processed according to your facility’s standard sterilization protocols for stainless steel surgical instruments to maintain its integrity and performance over time.
