Description

Sklar's Beckman-Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining retractor used in procedures where a rigid retractor may not be able to adequately hold back tissue due to the location or shape of the surgical site. It is often used in neck/thyroid, intracranial, and spinal procedures. This instrument features hinges on both shanks, midway between the handle and the jaws. This allows greater movement of the instrument and ultimately greater retraction and exposure of the tissue. Additionally, the prongs are available sharp or blunt, to accomodate both tough and delicate tissue. The finger ring handle is ratcheted so it can be locked into position. This product has 3x4 sharp prongs and an overall length of 8 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does this retractor offer hands-free tissue exposure?

Yes, this is a self-retaining surgical instrument. The integrated ratcheted finger ring handle allows the retractor to lock into the desired position, maintaining consistent tissue exposure without requiring continuous manual pressure.

How do the hinged shanks improve surgical mobility?

The hinges located midway between the handle and the jaws are designed to provide increased instrument mobility. This articulation allows for better positioning and enhanced tissue exposure in complex anatomical areas, such as neck or spinal procedures, where a rigid tool would be insufficient.

Is the 3x4 prong configuration effective for gripping tissue?

Absolutely. This model features sharp, 3x4 prongs that are specifically engineered to grasp and hold tissue firmly, ensuring reliable retraction during delicate operations.

Can this instrument withstand repeated surgical use?

Yes, it is a reusable, surgical-grade instrument. It is precision-engineered for long-term professional use and is built to maintain its performance through rigorous surgical procedures.

Is this product manufactured without latex?

Yes, this retractor is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical environments and patients with latex sensitivities.

Is this instrument suitable for deep-cavity procedures?

Yes, the 8-inch length and hinged shank design make it an excellent choice for procedures involving deep cavities, such as thyroidectomies, neurosurgery, and spinal operations where exposure is difficult to achieve.

Does the retractor lock securely during use?

Yes, it features a ratcheted locking mechanism on the finger ring handles. This allows the surgeon to set the exact level of retraction required and lock it securely in place for the duration of the procedure.

Is this product TAA compliant for government facilities?

Yes, the Sklar Beckman-Weitlaner Retractor is TAA compliant, meeting the standards required for use in government and federally-supported surgical facilities.

Does this require any special handling before use?

Please note that this instrument is supplied as non-sterile. It must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols for reusable surgical instrumentation before its first use.
