Description

Sklar's Beckman-Weitlaner Retractor is a self-retaining retractor used in procedures where a rigid retractor may not be able to adequately hold back tissue due to the location or shape of the surgical site. It is often used in neck/thyroid, intracranial, and spinal procedures. This instrument features hinges on both shanks, midway between the handle and the jaws. This allows greater movement of the instrument and ultimately greater retraction and exposure of the tissue. Additionally, the prongs are available sharp or blunt, to accomodate both tough and delicate tissue. The finger ring handle is ratcheted so it can be locked into position. This product has 3x4 blunt prongs and an overall length of 10-1/4 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does this retractor offer a hands-free locking mechanism?

Yes, this instrument features a ratcheted finger ring handle design. This allows the surgeon to lock the retractor into a specific position, ensuring sustained, hands-free retraction throughout the procedure.

How does the hinge design improve surgical visibility?

The instrument incorporates hinges midway on both shanks. This specialized design provides:

Superior maneuverability compared to rigid retractors.

Increased range of motion, allowing for greater tissue exposure in confined or irregularly shaped surgical fields.

Is the prong design safe for delicate tissue?

Absolutely. This model is configured with 3x4 blunt prongs. By avoiding sharp tips, it effectively minimizes the risk of excessive tissue trauma, making it highly suitable for delicate anatomical structures.

Is this instrument safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this retractor is 100% free of natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for both patients and medical staff with latex sensitivities.

What surgical procedures is this retractor best suited for?

Due to its self-retaining design and blunt prongs, it is ideal for procedures requiring rigid, continuous retraction in tight spaces, specifically:

Spinal surgeries

Intracranial procedures

Neck and thyroid surgeries

Does the instrument arrive ready for immediate surgical use?
