Description

Sklar's Ayer Chalazion Forceps are ophthalmologic thumb forceps used to evert the eyelid and expose chalazion for drainage and removal. The instrument has one is solid and one fenestrated tip. The tips isolate the chalazion on the elid and push it upward to aid in the procedure. The size and consistency of the chalazion are primary factors when choosing which chalazion forceps to use. Larger chalazion, as well as those with hard matter, will require larger incisions, hence require larger tipped forceps. Smaller, fluid chalazion may be excised with smaller incisions and the use of forceps with a smaller diameter. This product is available with or without a tightening screw, and the fenestrated ring diameter is 8mm.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for clinical use?

Yes, these are professional-grade (OR Grade) instruments. They are specifically manufactured for use in high-stakes environments, including:

  • Hospital operating rooms
  • Outpatient ophthalmology clinics
What is the primary material used?

The Sklar Ayer Chalazion Forceps are crafted from high-quality stainless steel. This material choice ensures:

  • Superior durability
  • Resistance to wear during repeated sterilization cycles
  • Reliable performance in surgical settings
Can these be reused for multiple procedures?

Yes, this instrument is designed as a reusable surgical tool. It is built to maintain its precision and integrity over time, provided it undergoes proper cleaning and sterilization protocols between uses.

What is the benefit of the hybrid tip design?

The unique tip geometry—consisting of one solid side and one 8mm fenestrated ring—is engineered to:

  • Securely grasp the eyelid
  • Isolate the chalazion effectively
  • Push the lesion toward the surface to provide a stable, clear platform for surgeons to perform incisions.
Is the clamping pressure adjustable?

Yes, the forceps are available in a configuration that includes a knurled tightening screw. This allows medical professionals to precisely regulate the compression applied during the procedure.

Are these forceps safe for patients with latex allergies?

Absolutely. This product is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is safe for use on patients with latex sensitivities.

Are they ideal for larger lesion removal?

Yes, the 8mm fenestrated ring is specifically optimized for managing larger chalazion or lesions that contain harder matter, providing the necessary surface area for wider, efficient excision.

How long is the instrument?

The forceps feature an instrument length of 3-1/2 inches, providing a balance between reach, control, and ergonomic handling for the surgeon.

Does the handle design prevent slippage?

Yes, the body of the forceps features deep, horizontal serrations along the grip area. This design ensures the surgeon maintains a secure, non-slip hold throughout the procedure.

Is this product compliant with international standards?

Yes, the Sklar Ayer Chalazion Forceps are TAA Compliant, reflecting their eligibility for government procurement and adherence to high manufacturing standards.
