Frequently asked questions

Does this osteotome feature high-grade stainless steel construction?

Yes, this instrument is expertly crafted from durable, high-quality stainless steel. This material is chosen specifically to ensure it can withstand the rigors of repeated sterilization and maintain its structural integrity in demanding surgical environments.

How does the double-beveled tip improve surgical performance?

Unlike a standard chisel, which is single-beveled, the double-beveled tip on this Andrews osteotome is designed to provide a cleaner, more controlled bone-chipping action. This specific geometry is essential for precision work, particularly when operating on delicate structures like the mastoid bone.

Is this tool suitable for mallet-assisted procedures?

Absolutely. The instrument is engineered to be used in conjunction with a surgical mallet. The handle features a sturdy, textured pommel designed to reliably receive impact for controlled and effective bone chiseling.

Is this instrument compatible with standard mastoid procedures?

Yes, it is explicitly designed as an Andrews pattern osteotome, which follows established clinical protocols for ear-related surgeries. Its 7mm tip and 6-inch length are specialized for chipping away at mastoid bone tissue.

Does the instrument contain any natural rubber latex?

No. The Sklar Andrews Osteotome is completely free of natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical environments and patients with latex sensitivities.

What are the sterilization requirements for this tool?

This instrument is supplied in a non-sterile condition. It must undergo your facility’s validated sterilization protocols (such as autoclaving) before its first use and between every subsequent surgical procedure.

Is this product compliant with trade agreements?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary regulatory requirements for facilities that prioritize trade agreement compliance in their procurement of surgical instrumentation.

How should I maintain this instrument for longevity?

To ensure the longevity of your stainless steel surgical instrument, follow these best practices: 1. Always perform thorough cleaning immediately after use to remove debris. 2. Use pH-neutral cleaning agents. 3. Regularly inspect the 7mm tip for sharpness and signs of wear. 4. Follow standard hospital guidelines for proper sterilization and storage.

Can I rely on the consistency of the Andrews pattern design?

Yes, as an Andrews pattern instrument, this tool ensures consistent clinical performance. It is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing surgical kits and protocols that rely on this specific, time-tested pattern.

Is this instrument designed for repeated clinical use?

Yes, this is a reusable surgical instrument. Its heavy-duty, stainless steel construction is specifically intended for repeated, high-frequency use in professional medical settings, provided it is cleaned and sterilized correctly after each application.
