Description

Merit Littauer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. Littauer Stitch Scissors are most commonly available in the length of 5-1/2 inches, therefore, they typically have larger, less delicate tips than Spencer Stitch Scissors, and are used for removing larger sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. This product is straight with smooth, blunt/blunt tips and a length of 5-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors suitable for heavy-duty suture removal?

Yes, these 5-1/2 inch scissors are specifically designed for larger sutures. Unlike delicate instruments, this size provides the robust leverage and tip configuration necessary to manage more substantial suture material effectively.

Does the hook feature prevent the suture from slipping?

Absolutely. The specialized integrated suture hook on one blade is engineered to slide directly under the thread and lift it away from the skin. This ensures the material is securely captured before you make the cut, effectively preventing any unwanted slippage.

Is the stainless steel grade suitable for long-term use?

Yes, these scissors are crafted from high-quality stainless steel intended for long-term, repeated clinical service. They are built to withstand standard handling and repeated sterilization protocols, ensuring consistent performance over time.

Can these be used for delicate tissue excision?

No, these instruments are strictly designed for suture removal only. Using them to excise tissue is not recommended, as they are engineered specifically for the precision cutting of suture materials.

Are these scissors safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, they are guaranteed to be latex-free. These instruments are manufactured without the use of any natural rubber latex, making them an excellent choice for medical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Do these scissors require special sterilization before the first use?

Yes, these scissors are supplied non-sterile. Because they are reusable medical instruments, they must be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before their initial use and between procedures.

What is the benefit of the blunt-tipped design?

The blunt/blunt tip configuration is designed with patient safety in mind. By keeping the ends rounded while utilizing the specialized hook for lifting, the instrument minimizes the risk of accidental puncture or injury to the patient’s skin during the removal process.

How reliable is the construction of these scissors?

These are Merit Physician Grade instruments manufactured by Sklar. This grade signifies that they meet professional standards for reliability and durability in demanding clinical settings.

Are these scissors comfortable for repetitive clinical tasks?

Yes, they feature a traditional finger ring handle design, which is a standard, ergonomic configuration for surgical scissors. This design provides users with familiar, precise control and comfortable handling during frequent use.

Does the product include any guarantee for its durability?

Yes, these scissors are backed by a Lifetime Warranty. This reflects the high quality of the stainless steel construction and the manufacturer’s commitment to the long-term integrity of the instrument.
