Description

Medtronic/Minimally Invasive Therapies Group Suture, Blunt Taper Point - Protect Point, Size 1, 36", Needle BGS-28, ½ Circle, 2 dz/bx . CHROMIC GUT sutures are absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) intestines. They are packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water and 1% triethanolmaine. Chromic gut is treated with chromic salt solution. Mild chromic sutures are specially treated for ophthalmic and cuticular applications. The manufacture of catgut raw material, consisting of long ribbons of highly selected serosal tissue, ensures: Purity of collagen for optimal tensile strength and in-vivo performance; Uniform treatment with a buffered chromium salt solution, resulting in a chromic strand with a more predictable strength and uniform in-vivo absorption; Surface smoothness to facilitate knot run-down and knot strength, due to electronic polishing of each strand. CHROMIC GUT sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic surgery, but not in cardiovascular or neurological surgery.

Frequently asked questions

What materials are Medtronic Chromic Gut sutures made of?

Medtronic Chromic Gut sutures are made from purified connective tissue, primarily collagen, derived from the serosal layer of beef intestines.

What are the intended uses for these sutures, and are there any contraindications?

These sutures are indicated for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including ophthalmic surgery. They are not intended for cardiovascular or neurological surgery.

Are these sutures absorbable?

Yes, Chromic Gut sutures are absorbable, eliminating the need for a second procedure to remove them. The sutures are treated with chromic salt solution for extended absorption time.

What is the size and length of the suture?

The suture size is 1, and the length is 36 inches.

How many sutures are included in one box?

Each box contains 2 dozen (24) sutures.

What type of needle is used with these sutures?

The needle is a BGS-28, ½ circle blunt taper point (Protect Point™).

What is the packaging solution composed of?

The sutures are packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water, and 1% triethanolamine to maintain sterility and condition.

How are these sutures treated to affect their absorption rate?

The sutures are treated with a chromic salt solution to extend the absorption time, ensuring they provide support for a longer period during the healing process.

Are these sutures sterile?

Yes, the sutures are packaged sterile and ready for use.

Does electronic polishing improve knot strength?

Yes, electronic polishing is applied to each strand to provide superior surface smoothness, which aids in knot run-down and strengthens the final knot.
