Description

The Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator features one-touch adaptable flow rates allowing for a wider variety of procedures to be carried out with just one pump. It is designed for use in hospitals, clinics, medical practices, and can also be used to provide the vacuum required for use with cardiac tissue stabilizers used in off-pump coronary artery bypass and for use with epicardial ablation probes.

Note: Canister, lid, and all other accessories are not included. Please view the Accessories section to see compatible optional accessories.

Warranty: 5 Years - Defects in Materials and Workmanship.

The standard flow rate of 50 l/min is an ideal starting point for most procedures. Should you require a faster vacuum build-up, a simple touch of the 60 l/min button is sufficient to put the suction pump into turbo mode. A touch on the 40 l/min button immediately delivers quiet operation.

The Dominant Flex Aspirator improves upon and replaces the previous model Dominant 50 Aspirator.

Frequently asked questions

What are the optimized flow rate options?

The Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator offers adaptable, one-touch flow control with three distinct settings, allowing you to optimize performance for various medical procedures:

  • 40 l/min (Quiet Operation): This setting provides the lowest noise level (as quiet as 37.8 dBA), perfect for sensitive patient areas.
  • 50 l/min (Standard): This is the typical operational flow rate, suitable for general use.
  • 60 l/min (Turbo Mode): Used for procedures requiring rapid vacuum build-up or higher flow suction, such as surgical applications or liposuction.

These flow rates are easily selected using the control buttons, which feature CleanTouch technology to help minimize surface contamination risks.

How adaptable are the flow rates?

The Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator features versatile one-touch flow control, allowing you to quickly optimize performance for various medical procedures. The pump offers three distinct settings:

  • 40 l/min (Quiet Operation): Runs at an exceptionally low noise level of only 37.8 dBA (measured at 1 meter), ideal for sensitive environments.
  • 50 l/min (Standard): This is the general operational flow rate for efficient, standard suction procedures.
  • 60 l/min (Turbo Mode): Used for the fastest vacuum build-up and intensive, high-suction requirements.

All flow settings are capable of reaching the maximum high vacuum level of -95 kPa (-713 mmHg). Additionally, the flow change buttons utilize CleanTouch technology to enhance hygiene and minimize contamination risks.

Does the Dominant Flex Aspirator operate quietly?

Yes, the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator is engineered with quiet operation as a core feature, making it highly suitable for sensitive medical environments. This is a key advantage of the unit.

Its quiet performance is primarily achieved through a durable piston/cylinder system, which maintains a low working speed. This design minimizes operational noise while also reducing strain on components and decreasing maintenance requirements.

The noise levels (measured at 1 meter distance) are remarkably low, even in the highest flow settings:

  • 40 l/min (Quiet Mode): 37.8 dBA
  • 50 l/min (Standard Mode): 38.4 dBA
  • 60 l/min (Turbo Mode): 39.8 dBA
Does CleanTouch technology minimize contamination risk?

Yes, the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator is designed with hygiene as a priority to help minimize contamination risks. It incorporates several features to ensure a clean operating environment:

  • CleanTouch Technology: This system is applied to the on/off and flow change buttons, reducing the need for direct physical contact and therefore minimizing the potential for contamination during use.
  • Durable, Cleanable Housing: The unit features a smooth, single-piece hood that facilitates easy cleaning. The housing materials are specifically engineered to withstand potent disinfection agents, ensuring compatibility with stringent infection control protocols.
Does this aspirator use a reliable, low-maintenance system?

Yes, the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator is built with Swiss engineering and features a highly reliable, low-maintenance Piston/Cylinder System.

This robust design ensures operational consistency and long-term value through several key features:

  • Exceptional Durability and Low Maintenance: The piston/cylinder design operates at a low working speed, significantly reducing strain on moving parts. This minimizes wear and leads to less frequent maintenance requirements.
  • Robust Housing: The unit is constructed with high-quality materials resistant to potent disinfection agents, ensuring it can withstand rigorous reprocessing and cleaning protocols in a clinical setting.
  • Quiet Performance: The efficient system delivers notably quiet operation. At the standard 50 l/min flow rate, the noise level is only 38.4 dBA (measured at 1 meter).
Does the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator offer a high vacuum level?

Yes, the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator provides a powerful high vacuum level of -95 kPa (which is equivalent to -713 mmHg). This robust suction capability is engineered for effective aspiration across a wide range of procedures in hospital and surgical settings.

What mobility configurations are available?

The Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator is available in three primary configurations to suit various clinical requirements and mobility needs:

  • Portable: This option features an integrated carry handle, making it effortless to transport the unit between different areas of care.
  • Rack Mobile: A stable, standard configuration designed for fixed placement or rack mounting.
  • Rack Mobile with Trolley: Ideal for dynamic environments like operating theaters or emergency rooms, this configuration includes a dedicated trolley featuring:
    • Four locking antistatic casters for stability and safe movement.
    • An accessory rail for add-ons.
    • An integrated foot ON/OFF switch for convenient, hands-free operation.

Note: Essential accessories, such as the collection canister, lid, and patient tubing, must be purchased separately to complete the setup.

What is the maximum power consumption?

The maximum operational power consumption for the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator is 120 W (0.16 hp).

This high efficiency is part of the robust design that ensures reliable operation. Key power details include:

  • Required Power Input: 100 to 120 VAC, 60 Hz.
  • Efficiency Benefit: The system is built with a Swiss-engineered Piston/Cylinder System that facilitates low working speed, resulting in notably quiet performance (as low as 37.8 dBA) and minimal strain on moving parts for low maintenance.
Does the aspirator control static electricity?

Yes, the Medela Dominant Flex Aspirator incorporates essential safety features, including a Potential Equalization Conductor.

This conductor is specifically designed to actively prevent the transfer of static electricity to the patient during operation, enhancing overall safety and reliability.

Is convenient hands-free operation included?

Yes, convenient hands-free operation is supported, but it depends on the configuration you choose. The Rack Mobile with Trolley model is the only option that includes an integrated foot on/off switch as a standard component.

This feature allows clinicians to power the unit on or off hygienically without using their hands, which significantly enhances workflow and helps maintain sterility in critical environments.
