Description

Gentell Xtrasorb Foam Super Absorbent Dressing. A novel, super absorbent foam dressing. It comprises a standard, highly absorptive, hydrophilic, polyurethane foam dressing, with a patented, super absorbent polymer sheet fused to the back side of the foam. This allows for significantly more fluid to be handled by the dressing. Additionally, the fluid is locked within the super absorbent sheet, keeping it away from the wound and surrounding tissue. This can help to reduce maceration and exposure to the harmful components of wound fluid.

Frequently asked questions

What wounds is the Xtrasorb dressing best for?

The Gentell Xtrasorb Foam Super Absorbent Dressing is specifically engineered for the management of heavily exuding wounds (high-exudate wounds).

Its advanced construction provides superior fluid handling and clinical benefits:

  • It combines a highly absorptive hydrophilic polyurethane foam with a patented Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) sheet.
  • The SAP layer entraps and locks absorbed fluid away from the wound bed and adjacent skin.
  • This mechanism effectively minimizes the risk of tissue maceration and limits exposure to potentially harmful wound fluid components.
Are different sizes and configurations available?

Yes, the Gentell Xtrasorb Foam Super Absorbent Dressing is available in a variety of sizes and configurations to meet diverse wound care needs. It is offered in both adhesive and non-adhesive formats.

The available sizes include:

  • Non-Adhesive Foam Dressings:
    • 2” x 2”
    • 4” x 4¾”
    • 8” x 8”
  • Adhesive Foam Dressings:
    • 3.2” x 3.2”
    • 4½” x 4½”
    • 6” x 6”
What advanced materials are used?

The Gentell Xtrasorb dressing uses a novel dual-layer structure for superior fluid management:

  • Primary Material: Hydrophilic Polyurethane Foam. This foam base is highly absorptive and efficiently draws exudate into the dressing.
  • Key Technology: Patented Super Absorbent Polymer Sheet. Fused to the back of the foam, this specialized polymer sheet maximizes fluid capacity and activates the crucial fluid-locking mechanism.

This innovative combination ensures exudate is sequestered away from the wound bed and surrounding tissue, significantly helping to minimize the risk of maceration.

How are the different sizes packaged?

The Gentell Xtrasorb dressings are sold in sterile configurations, and the case quantity varies slightly depending on the size and whether it is an adhesive or non-adhesive type. These are the two primary packaging formats:

  • Standard Case Configuration (40 Dressings Total):
    • Box Quantity: 10 sterile dressings per box.
    • Case Quantity: 4 boxes per case.
    • Applies to: All Adhesive dressings and the smaller Non-Adhesive sizes (2” x 2” and 4” x 4¾”).
  • Largest Non-Adhesive Configuration (50 Dressings Total):
    • Box Quantity: 5 sterile dressings per box.
    • Case Quantity: 10 boxes per case.
    • Applies to: The largest 8” x 8” Non-Adhesive Foam Dressing only.
How does the Xtrasorb dressing prevent maceration?

The Gentell Xtrasorb dressing is designed with advanced technology to prevent tissue breakdown (maceration) around the wound:

  • It features a layer of hydrophilic polyurethane foam fused with a patented super absorbent polymer sheet.
  • This polymer sheet significantly enhances the dressing’s fluid management capacity, allowing it to absorb substantially more exudate than standard foam dressings.
  • Crucially, the absorbed wound fluid is locked within the polymer sheet, effectively isolating the fluid from the wound bed and surrounding skin.

By sequestering the fluid, the dressing helps protect the delicate periwound tissue, minimizing the risk of maceration.

Is the Gentell Xtrasorb® dressing sterile?

Yes, the Gentell Xtrasorb® dressing is sterile, ensuring a safe and clean application to the wound.

What are the packaging options?

The packaging configuration varies depending on the specific size and adhesion type of the Gentell Xtrasorb dressing chosen. All dressings are sterile.

There are two primary case configurations:

  1. Standard Case (40 Dressings Total):
    • Box Quantity: 10 sterile dressings per box
    • Case Quantity: 4 boxes per case
    • Applies to: All Adhesive variants and the Non-Adhesive 2” x 2” and 4” x 4¾” sizes.
  2. Large Non-Adhesive Case (50 Dressings Total):
    • Box Quantity: 5 sterile dressings per box
    • Case Quantity: 10 boxes per case
    • Applies to: Only the 8” x 8” Non-Adhesive Foam Dressing.
Does this dressing offer superior absorption compared to standard foam?

Yes, the Gentell Xtrasorb Foam Super Absorbent Dressing is designed for superior fluid management. It incorporates a patented, super absorbent polymer sheet fused to the foam, which locks fluid away from the wound and surrounding tissue. This innovative design gives it a significantly higher fluid-handling capacity than standard foam dressings, helping to reduce maceration and promote healing.

Is this dressing suitable for heavily draining wounds?

Yes, the Gentell Xtrasorb is specifically designed for the management of heavily exuding (high-exudate) wounds. It uses advanced technology to handle significant fluid volumes:

  • It integrates a Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) sheet with hydrophilic foam.
  • The SAP layer acts as a fluid locking mechanism, trapping fluid away from the wound bed and adjacent skin.

This fluid management capability is engineered to reduce the risk of tissue maceration and limit exposure to potentially harmful wound fluid components.

What is the key benefit of this super absorbent dressing?

The key benefit of the Gentell Xtrasorb Foam Super Absorbent Dressing is its superior fluid management capability, specifically designed for wounds with moderate to high levels of exudate.

This is achieved through its unique construction:

  • Super Absorbency: The dressing combines highly absorptive hydrophilic polyurethane foam with a patented super absorbent polymer sheet fused to the back, giving it significantly higher capacity than traditional foam dressings.
  • Fluid Locking: The polymer sheet actively locks the exudate away from the wound bed. This mechanism is crucial for reducing maceration of the surrounding tissue and limiting exposure to potentially harmful wound fluid components.
