Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum lift capacity?

The Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is engineered with a maximum unassisted lift capacity of 700 lb (318 kg).

This robust lifting ability is managed entirely by the cot’s powered system, which utilizes a 24 V DC power pack, a hydraulic actuator, and dual lifting cylinders.

Benefits for EMS Operators:

  • Injury Mitigation: By handling the entire patient load, the powered system significantly reduces the physical strain and risk of back injuries for personnel during loading and unloading.
  • Load Limit: The cot’s certified load limit is also 700 lb (318 kg).
Does the powered cot lift the patient unassisted?

Yes, the Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is a fully powered cot. It utilizes a 24 V DC power pack and hydraulic actuator to provide an impressive 700 lb (318 kg) of unassisted lift capacity.

This powered system ensures the operator never has to lift the patient’s weight, significantly reducing the risk of back injuries during loading and unloading operations.

Is the cot length adjustable for improved maneuverability?

Yes, the Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is engineered specifically for excellent maneuverability in confined spaces. This capability is achieved through the 5-position drop frame and the multi-position foot-end lift bar, which allow the cot length to be significantly reduced.

  • Length Reduction: The cot length can be shortened by up to 15 inches (reducing the overall length from 83 inches maximum to 61 inches minimum).
  • Maneuverability: When the cot is placed in its lowest position, it offers a true 360° turning radius, which is crucial for navigating tight corridors, elevators, and complex environments with ease.
What fastening systems are compatible?

The Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is designed for secure transport and is compatible with established Ferno fastening and accessory systems, including:

  • Ferno 175 Fastener
  • Ferno Stat Trac Fastener

The Stat Trac system is a notable optional accessory that helps streamline vehicle loading and unloading by eliminating steering strain. Furthermore, the cot is compatible with the LBS (Load Bearing Surface) and LBS Jr. accessory systems.

What essential components are included?

The certified refurbished Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ Powered Ambulance Cot is shipped ready for immediate use, including the critical components necessary for operation and patient safety.

Key included components are:

  • Mattress (for the 79-inch patient surface)
  • Battery pack (24 V DC power pack)
  • Charger
  • Two lap belts
  • Four-point shoulder restraint
Does it feature in-the-fastener charging?

Yes, the Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is equipped with advanced power management that supports in-the-fastener charging. This allows the battery to charge automatically while the cot is secured in the ambulance, ensuring it is ready for immediate use.

This system provides reliable power for the 700 lb unassisted lift capacity. Key details of the power system include:

  • Power Source: A robust 24 V DC power pack that drives the hydraulic actuator and dual lifting cylinders.
  • Cycle Capacity: The battery is capable of approximately 50 lift/lower cycles per charge (though performance can vary based on patient weight and extreme temperatures).
  • Smart Charging: It features auto shutoff during charging and includes a clear battery charger indicator.
  • Compatibility: The cot is also compatible with the Integrated Charging System (ICS), which can be purchased optionally to further streamline battery management.
How does the drop frame improve handling?

The 5-position drop frame and the multi-position foot-end lift bar are crucial for maximizing the cot’s maneuverability, especially in confined areas. They work together to deliver two key benefits:

  • Length Reduction: They allow you to shorten the overall cot length by 15 inches (down to 61 inches minimum), which is essential for maneuvering through tight spaces like elevators and crowded scenes.
  • 360° Turning Radius: When the cot is set to its lowest position, this feature provides a true 360° turning radius, giving the operator precise control in restrictive environments.
Is the cot compatible with an Integrated Charging System (ICS)?

Yes, the Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ Powered Ambulance Cot is compatible with the Integrated Charging System (ICS), which is available as an accessory or option.

This system enables advanced power management through in-the-fastener charging:

  • Continuous Readiness: The cot’s 24 V DC battery pack charges automatically while secured in the ambulance fastener (compatible with 175 or Stat Trac systems), ensuring it is ready for the next call.
  • Reliable Performance: A single charge provides power for an average of 50 lift cycles.
  • Safety Features: Charging includes auto shutoff and a visible battery charger indicator.
What color options are available?

The Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ Powered Ambulance Cot is offered in two distinct colors: * Rescue Red * Electric Blue

Does the cot feature durable all-metal frame construction?

Yes, the Ferno 56 POWERFlexx+ is specifically engineered for exceptional durability and reliable performance under heavy use.

Key features ensuring strength and longevity include:

  • All-Metal Construction: The cot is built with an all-metal frame construction and utilizes an elongated rectangular X-frame design, providing inherent strength and long-term durability.
  • High Load Capacity: The robust structure is designed to safely manage and utilize its full 700 lb (318 kg) unassisted lift and load capacity.
  • Structural Reliability: The frame employs non-telescoping tubing, and the X-frame runs on four shafts using linear bearings, which ensures rigid support and controlled, smooth movement during operation.
