Description

Sklar Utility Scissors are a multipurpose instrument used for cutting non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. These scissors are angled and have one serrated blade and one smooth blade. The flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade greatly reduces the likelihood of skin being nicked if the scissors are used for cutting material that is on the patient, such as clothing or bandages. They should never be used to cut tissue or sutures. One plastic finger ring is larger than the other for maximized control while cutting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors safe for use near patient skin?

Yes, these scissors are specifically engineered with a flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade. This design significantly minimizes the risk of accidentally nicking a patient’s skin when cutting bandages, clothing, or drapes.

Can I use these to cut sutures or live tissue?

No. These instruments are strictly intended for cutting non-tissue materials such as gauze, casting materials, tape, or clothing. They should not be used on live tissue or sutures.

How do these ensure a clean cut through tough materials?

The scissors feature a versatile dual-blade design: one serrated blade for gripping and cutting through materials, paired with one smooth blade for a clean separation.

Are these scissors latex-free?

Yes, they are guaranteed to be not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for environments with latex-sensitive patients or staff.

Why are the finger rings designed differently?

The handle features one larger plastic finger ring compared to the other to provide enhanced ergonomic control and better leverage during use, reducing hand fatigue during clinical tasks.

Are these reusable after sterilization?

No, these are disposable, single-use instruments. Being supplied sterile allows you to maintain aseptic conditions in a clinical setting while completely eliminating the costs and time associated with reprocessing.

What kind of material are the blades made of?

The blades are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, providing the durability and sharpness required for clinical utility tasks.

Are they easy to maneuver in tight spaces?

Yes, the angled configuration of the scissors makes them ideal for triage and emergency settings, allowing for easier access and precision when cutting materials positioned close to the patient.

How many units come in a case?

Each purchase is a case of 25 units, making them an efficient choice for stocking emergency departments, clinics, or triage stations.

Can the different handle colors be used for organization?

Absolutely. The variety of handle colors available (including Hunter Green) makes them excellent for implementing color-coding systems in your facility to help categorize specific uses or departments.
