In all my years of anesthesia, these are the worst catheters EVER! Zero stars. IVs are supposed to have flash and bleed back as you advance them to let you know you’re still in a patent vein. These are hard to advance (should be able to do with one hand while other maintains traction. They don’t warn you if you maneuver out of the vessel as there is the stupid spring preventing back flow. A-lines and central lines are placed with back flow for placement importance. If you’re doing a difficult ultrasound stick, you don’t have three hands to advance the catheter and hold probe. The FDA recall was not fixed as the septum still leaks periodically!
Stop making it harder and go back to regular IVs that don’t stop blood flow. Any good phlebotomist knows that your second hand is the pressure hand for blood loss.
