What is Vascular Therapy?

Vascular therapy is the improvement of circulation and blood flow in small blood vessels, in order to better condition the body and assist in the healing process. It's typically preferred and recommended over traditional vascular surgery, if available. Vascular therapy can be a beneficial tool for patients afflicted with lymphedema, venous insufficiency, venous stasis ulcers, or localized edema. Vascular therapy is conducted in a hospital or clinic, usually before or following a surgical procedure or trauma.

How Does Vascular Therapy Work?

A vascular therapy pump is the specific device that's often coupled with compression garments, designed to assist in all the conditions mentioned above. They provide consistent compression to alleviate conditions such as Deep Vein Thrombosis and Venous thromboembolism.

The process works by applying compression garments to the affected area and allowing the pump to deliver the correct pressure to massage the area. The garments are typically equipped with air valves, as the pump is pneumatically powered. As pressure is applied to the garments, it increases blood flow in critical areas and prevents harmful blood clots from forming. The pumps feature audible or visual cues that showcase pump pressure at all times.

Keep in mind that vascular therapy is not effective for arteriosclerosis, ischaemic vascular diseases, congestive heart failure, pulmonary embolism, or infections.
