Description

Sklar's TC Crile-Wood Needle Holder is used to hold and guide small to medium size needles and suture materials. The Crile-Wood Needle Holder has a gently tapered, blunt tip and is generally more delicate than the Mayo-Hegar but slightly less delicate than Webster, Halsey, or DeBakey needle holders. The ratcheted finger ring handle aids in securing needles for both continuous and interrupted closures. Tungsten Carbide instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the instrument, which maximizes control and precision. This product is straight with cross-serrated tips, and an overall length of 10-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tungsten carbide insert improve performance?

Yes, the tungsten carbide (TC) inserts are permanently bonded to the jaws, which provides significantly superior edge retention and sharpness compared to standard stainless steel instruments. This design ensures consistent precision and control during surgical procedures.

Is this needle holder suitable for delicate sutures?

The instrument is designed as a Crile-Wood / DeBakey pattern, which offers a perfect balance between stability and delicacy. It is specifically engineered to securely handle small to medium-sized needles during both interrupted and continuous closures.

Why are the finger rings colored gold?

The gold-finished finger rings serve as a functional visual indicator, helping to provide clear contrast against standard surgical fields. This allows for quick identification of the instrument during high-pressure procedures.

Does the instrument feature a secure locking mechanism?

Yes, it is equipped with a reliable ratchet mechanism integrated into the handle. This allows the surgeon to lock the needle firmly in place, ensuring stability while maneuvering or suturing.

Is this device compatible with surgical tracking systems?

Yes, this specific model is CensiTrac marked, meaning it includes designated identification to assist with asset tracking and compliance within your facility’s management system.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Absolutely. This needle holder is 100% latex-free, ensuring it is safe for use in procedures involving patients with natural rubber latex sensitivities.

How should I prepare this instrument before first use?

As this product is supplied non-sterile, it must undergo standard hospital-grade reprocessing and sterilization according to your facility’s protocols before it can be used in a surgical setting.

Is the needle tip designed to prevent slippage?

Yes, the working surfaces feature a specialized cross-serrated tip pattern. This design is engineered to optimize grip on the needle, preventing unwanted movement or rotation while suturing.

Does the instrument comply with trade regulations?

Yes, this Sklar instrument is TAA Compliant, making it suitable for procurement in environments that require adherence to the Trade Agreements Act.

Is the construction durable enough for long-term use?

This is a Sklar Premium Grade reusable instrument. Because it is manufactured with high-quality stainless steel and durable tungsten carbide inserts, it is built to withstand the rigors of repeated clinical use and is backed by a lifetime warranty.
